RHS Seed Scheme for members 2013-2014
The RHS has a small, dedicated team of staff and volunteers who collect, clean and pack seed for members.
As a member of the RHS, one of the many benefits is the opportunity to order seeds, which have been harvested by hand from RHS gardens Wisley in Surrey, Hyde Hall in Essex, Harlow Carr in Yorkshire and Rosemoor in Devon.
Please note that unfortunately we are only able to send seed to addresses in the UK and EU, Croatia, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
Applying for seed
As a RHS member you can apply for up to 12 packets of seed selected from the catalogue, including the eight collections on offer. As only limited quantities of some seed are available we recommend that you also list up to five alternatives.
Please note that only one packet of any one number can be supplied.
To take advantage of the seed scheme there is a charge of £8.50. This is an exclusive membership benefit and we hope you’ll agree that it’s good value for money, at 70 pence per packet (if 12 packets are ordered). This charge goes towards the cost of seed collection, administration and postage.
If you are applying for seed for the first time please note you will need to go to the Members’ area (click on the heading at the top of the page) and register. This will generate a password which you will need to use when ordering seeds online.
Orders can be made online anytime between 1 November 2013 and 31 March 2014. Alternatively, you can request an order form and a printed copy of our catalogue by contacting our Membership Services Team:

Changes to the RHS Seed Scheme this year
This year we have included fuller descriptions for everything in our catalogue and included more photos to make it easier for you to make your selections. This does mean we have had to reduce the selection of items in order to keep printing costs the same.
We have also limited the number of packets each member will receive to 12 as we feel many members are put off by the prospect of choosing 20 different items and that’s without taking into account the time and effort taken to grow 20 different packets of seed!
With a reduced catalogue this will also help to ensure that we have sufficient seed to meet demand.
To make the selection process easier we have put together eight collections which we hope will offer something for all levels of gardeners. Each collection will consist of five packets from the 10 listed. Unfortunately we are unable to be precise about the five packets included, as we do not want to disappoint anyone if we run out of a particular seed.
Ordering online - helpful hints
We recommend that you download the catalogue first, (see 'useful links') as this will enable you to choose your selections at leisure. Make a note of the number of your selections and use these when you order online.
You may like to refer to the Germination Guide (see 'useful links') which is also on the website this year as it may help you to make your selections. Please note that you will receive a free copy of the guide with your order.
Choose up to 12 items to enter as your ‘first choices’, then choose up to five items to put in your ‘alternative list’. The Seed Team will then be able to make substitutions if your first choice has run out. You may choose to order one or more of the collections but please remember that one collection has five packets of seed and will therefore use five of your choices.
You will receive an e-mail to verify your order. This will also contain a unique reference number. If you do not receive an e-mail your order has not been registered for some reason and you will need to try again. If you have repeated problems please contact the Membership Services Team, quoting your Membership No.
When to expect your seed
The dispatch of orders will start in January 2014 and is usually completed by the end of April. If you have not received your seed by 1 May please contact our Membership Services Team.
