About the RHS seed scheme 2011/12

As a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, one of the many benefits is the opportunity to obtain seeds, which have been harvested from RHS Gardens: Wisley in Surrey, Hyde Hall in Essex, Harlow Carr in Yorkshire and Rosemoor in Devon.
The four gardens contain a huge range of plants from which the seed is gathered throughout the year. The team in the Seed Department at Wisley collects everything by hand and then dries, cleans and packs all the seeds ready for dispatch. Between January and April the packets of seed are dispatched by RHS staff and volunteers.
Access to this diversity of seeds, many not available commercially, from plants cultivated by experts is a great benefit for RHS members.
You can apply for up to 20 packets of seed selected from the list. As only limited quantities of some seed are available, you can also list up to five alternative selections. Please note that only one packet of seed of any one number can be supplied. 10 collections are also available for selection, each contain five packets of seed. You can apply for up to four collections (20 packets).
Seed is generally collected from open-pollinated plants; therefore seed may not come true. Please also note that some seed is donated and is offered under the names provided by the donors.
Toxic seed
Whilst we make every effort to highlight those seeds which we know to be toxic it should be assumed, to be on the safe side, that ALL seed could be potentially harmful or cause skin irritation. Therefore, as a precaution, and additionally to avoid any risk of choking, we advise that all seed should be kept out of the reach of children and pets; and should never be ingested.
