Set sail aboard the MV Serenade I chartered exclusively on this delightful cruise. We transport you from Arnhem to Cologne, with the spectacular floral exhibition Floriade 2012 your port of call on day 5. This showcase of nature’s wonders only visits the Netherlands once every 10 years, making this an event not to miss.

Day 1 UK/Düsseldorf

Begin your holiday with either a flight to Düsseldorf or via Eurostar into Brussels with an onward coach transfer to join the MV Serenade I. Set sail late evening. Meals: D

Day 2 Arnhem

Today you will arrive in the delightful town of Arnhem. Visit the town’s museum or join our optional excursion to the battlefields to discover the history of the John Frost Bridge, named after the British commander who defended it for four days during the Second World War. Meals: B/L/D

Day 3 Roermond

This afternoon the MV Serenade I arrives in the town of Roermond. Take time to make your own discoveries, perhaps visiting the 15th century Cathedral of St Christoffel, which was destroyed during the Second World War and subsequently rebuilt. Alternatively, relax on board. Meals: B/L/D

Day 4 Maastricht

On arrival in Maastricht this afternoon join our optional city tour to see its many scenic squares and historic buildings. The southernmost city in the Netherlands, Maastricht is situated within walking distance of Belgium and cycling distance of Germany. It is a great place to spend some time, with magnificent buildings including a lovely cathedral and a spectacular cobblestoned centre. The city is also well known for its fine cuisine, excellent shops and a multi-cultural atmosphere. Meals: B/L/D

Day 5 Venlo (for Floriade)

Today a full-day visit to Floriade is included in your holiday. Floriade is a spectacular international exhibition of flowers and gardening which is held in the Netherlands just once every 10 years, making this, the sixth event of its kind, an opportunity not to be missed. Meals: B/L/D

Day 6 Nijmegen

Nijmegen is said to be the oldest city in the Netherlands and several Roman settlements have been discovered here. It is situated on the Waal River near the German border. Today, you can make your own discoveries or why not join our optional city tour to discover its highlights. Meals: B/L/D

Day 7 Cologne

The delightful city of Cologne is home to many fine buildings and a magnificent Gothic cathedral in the main square, whose soaring spires were once the tallest structures in the world and still dominate the skyline. Take an optional city highlights walking tour to enjoy all the sights and soak up its atmosphere. Meals: B/L/D

Day 8 Cologne

Bid your fellow travellers farewell as your cruise draws to a close. Transfer to Düsseldorf or Brussels depending on your choice of travel arrangements for your onward journey back to the UK. Meals: B

Spacious comfortable cabins

The cabins are among the largest of any river cruiser, at 16 square metres. We want you to feel at home so we’ve included plenty of storage space and individually controlled air-conditioning to keep the temperature just how you like it. The twin beds are hotel standard and there is a seating area for relaxation. All cabins have flat-screen satellite TV, phone, fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, safe and a hairdryer.

The en suite bathrooms have a separate shower, bath and WC. Cabins are non-smoking but you can smoke on deck. There is a sauna on board for you to enjoy at your leisure along with a small range of fitness equipment. On the upper two decks all cabins have floor-to-ceiling sliding French windows for a great view or cooling breeze. On the lower deck there’s a smaller fixed window.
