Food 4 Thought is an innovative design that shows the importance of fruit production within the setting of the county of Kent. Its theme is the increasingly diverse range of crops that can be grown in Kent. This garden represents past, present and possible future farmed crops and highlights food miles, the climate and the importance of water as a commodity.

The contemporary design features an outdoor dining table and ribbons of vertically-grown strawberries as a focal point. Crops that have traditionally been grown in Kent have been used in the garden, but you can look through the window to see a selection of Mediterranean plants, highlighting the potential to adapt crop selection as a result of global warming.

Expert commentary by Phil Clayton, The Garden

A really nice garden showing brilliant integration of ornamental and edible crops. There is a part of the garden with step-over apples intermixed with Achillea and Anthemis. Also nice are the herbs on the back wall and a table with strawberries growing through the middle of it, as well as some arches with strawberries growing in the side of them. Ornamental plants such as Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ and Potentilla give a fiery touch. All round very pretty.
