The Copella Bee Garden celebrates the behaviour of the British bee whilst raising awareness of its population decline. The layout takes inspiration from the bees’ “waggle dance” and the garden reflects the journey from plant to hive.

An interactive sculptural building based on a beehive is surrounded by rolling earth banks resembling ridge and furrow patterns. Dessert apple trees and native shrubs create strong structural shapes, and a winding path weaves through the garden. A still pool echoes the curvilinear design of the seating area. The planting has been chosen to attract bees.

Sponsored by Copella, the UK’s best loved apple juice, visitors to the garden can sample a delicious range of Copella juices.

Expert commentary by Phil Clayton, The Garden

There is some really charming planting here, particularly the white flowered umbels of Ammi majus and smaller flowered Orlaya mixed with Verbena bonariensis, Stipa gigantea, lavenders, purple salvias and dear, little pale yellow sunflowers integrated well into the garden.
