The majestic beauty of the Alps inspired Shelley’s passionate poem “Mont Blanc”. Shelley described the elemental powers of nature as strong, creative and beautiful but also capable of creating dark and dangerous outcomes. Intrigued by witchcraft, Shelley introduces the witch Poesy, who lives in a cave behind a waterfall.
This garden represents the mountain as imagined by Shelley: a large rock formation incorporating a waterfall and cave. Mountain trees, shrubs, flowers and pretty alpine meadows transform the craggy peak into a beautiful alpine scene. The design is based on a symbol for a witch’s knot.
