'Never been seen at a show' is the claim for this Bracteata bluebell Hyacinthoides non-scripta, shown by Avon Bulbs. The whiskers are narrow bracts that emerge between the flowers. The bulbs will bulk up slowly if grown in moist soil in light shade.

Locally based Grange Farm Nurseries, Malvern are displaying a colourful mix of trees, flowering shrubs and perennials including here, Olearia x scilloniensis ' Master Michael'. With unusual pale blue daisy flowers in summer, this compact shrub to 120cm (4ft) will do well in a warm, sunny and protected site-a south facing wall is ideal.

Ian Butterfield is displaying Pleione for the last time at Malvern before he retires after 20 years of showing. These little plants flower in spring in almost fluorescent colours and can be grown outside, as they love the cold but must be protected from the winter rains. Iain says 'water when in flower, feed when in leaf'.

This chimney pot planted with Clematis 'Early Sensation' sits in the colourful display put on by Morton Nurseries Ltd. It shows how short climbers can be allowed to trail down as well as grow with support.

Newent Plant Centre has staged a mixed display with a seat in the centre to remind us gardeners to take time to sit and enjoy our gardens. Scented plants such as honeysuckle surround the seat.

Spring is the time for woodlanders, so Foxgrove Plants are showing off their collection of epimediums for moist light shade together with grasses such as bronze Chionochloa 'Rubra' , and tiny flowers of fleabane.
