Single Track Mind
Inspired by the GB cycling team’s performance in 2012, this garden has been designed to illustrate the mental challenges faced by a road-racing cyclist.
The garden comprises three different-sized, interconnected circles. Through the planting and hard features, each circle represents the various mental stages the cyclist goes through during a race: calm, focused and fresh at the beginning; the single-minded determination needed as the demands of the race increases; and relief and jubilation as the finishing line is crossed. The central area symbolises the eventual calm and return to normal life after a race; time to relax, take stock and prepare for the next challenge!
