Melbourne's Chelsea first
12 October 2010
Chelsea 2011 will include first-time entries from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne and the tax-free Principality of Monaco, it has been announced.
Speaking at the RHS London Autumn show, Show manager Alex Denman announced a Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne design for Chelsea Flower Show 2011, designed by Jim Fogarty.
The Australian landscape garden will feature plants mainly grown on in the UK by nurseries like Crocus, among others, to ensure they're perfectly acclimatised for the show.
The RHS also announced Sarah Eberle as designer of a spectacular Monaco show garden. The design has still to be officially ratified by Chelsea, but Monaco’s ruler Prince Albert is said to be determined that a model of his tax-free principality will be among the best gardens ever seen at Chelsea.
Luciano Giubbilei’s Laurent Perrier garden promises to be a highlight, and Patrick Collins and Laurie Chetwood’s B&Q garden will be a striking 9 metres high!
Clifton Nurseries will have a first outdoor exhibit, and Kelways will celebrate their 160th anniversary in the Great Pavilion with a 'peony valley'.
Chelsea Show manager Alex Denman confirmed that M&G Investments will continue as show sponsors for 2011.
