RHS Hampton Court's world of gardens
8 July 2011
The Royal Horticultural Society, organiser of the world’s largest gardening event, the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, is announcing an exciting new category for 2012 to showcase gardens from around the globe.
RHS Director General, Sue Biggs, who previously headed up luxury travel company Kuoni, is reaching out to the world of travel to create A World of Gardens at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show next year - the first time an RHS show will have a section dedicated to international gardens.
The vision is to bring together travel and gardening to create 12 gardens celebrating the highlights of different countries around the world. A World of Gardens will give travel organisations the opportunity to raise awareness of their country’s profile and will provide an exciting, vibrant and enlightening new spectacle at the flower show.
Speaking about the new A World of Gardens category for 2012, Sue Biggs says: “I can’t imagine a better way to represent the unique beauty of a country than through a garden.
"Our world-famous show offers destinations the opportunity to share their stunning landscapes with hundreds of thousands of visitors and millions more people through the media and online. It’s a fantastic initiative, which we have been discussing with travel organisations at the show this week.
“Millions of people enjoy gardening and travelling, and by creating A World of Gardens at Hampton Court Palace visitors will be able to come to one amazing show and experience gardens in 12 different countries all in one go. It’s also wonderfully apt that A World of Gardens will debut in the year the Olympics is being hosted in London, a truly international year.”
