Fresh, fabulous and blooming amazing
If it’s tender perennials you love, then RHS Chelsea Flower Show is THE show for you, says Greg Redwood, vice-chairman of the Tender Ornamentals Committee.
‘I know I’m biased, but I think Chelsea is the best show for tender perennials,’ said Greg, who is also in charge of all the greenhouses at Kew. ‘It’s remarkable considering the spring we’ve had. Things are later than normal, and everything looks very fresh.’
‘There’s a mass of flowers in full bloom, from fuschias and pelargoniums to the exotics. The carnivorous plant stands are superb, and the Grenada stand (GPD25) has lots of unusual plants – not to be missed.’ Other stands to head for include the remarkable exotics on Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden (GPG14) and of course Kirstenbosch (GPF15).
‘There’s suggestions and ideas here for everyone across the whole range of horticulture – from grand houses to huge greenhouses like we have at Kew, and even the smallest gardens. Where else could you find that in one place?’
For visitors to Chelsea, Greg has one tip to help you get the most from the show. ‘Ask the growers and exhibitors – whether you’ve got a garden, greenhouse, conservatory or window box they’ve got the answers for you.’
