Where have all the herbs gone?
Herb expert Jekka McVicar, a member of the RHS Fruit, Veg and Herb committee, has praised the standard of the fruit and veg exhibits this year.
But she's disappointed that, without her flying the flag for herbs, they are sadly lacking at the show. "I'm sad that there is no bespoke herb stand this year," she says, "although there are plenty of herbs mingling into planting displays in lots of gardens to great effect, for example I've seen angelica on many stands."
The situation with veg is similar, she says. "There's a shortage of dedicated veg stands although the standard of the exhibits in the Great Pavilion is extremely high.
"Staging veg for exhibition seems to be a dying art even though there is a resurgence in growing fruit and veg," she says. "We need to get more people interested."
