In the pink at Chelsea
Chelsea Flower Show always has a signature plant each year – one that both public and exhibitors seem to unconsciously choose.
And Jim Marshall, of the RHS Carnation and Pinks Sub-committee, has cast his vote. “If I were to choose one plant this year, both in the gardens and in the Great Pavilion, it would be the iris. They’re looking extraordinary.”
“The standard this year is excellent,” said Jim. “You have the full range of herbaceous plants in the Great Pavilion, and The Hardy Plant Society stand is a wonderful exhibit (GPH11).
But when it comes to his beloved carnations, Jim picked out Florigene Pty (GPD16). “It shows an interesting range of colours,” he enthused. “The Moon series is one to look out for.”
And if it’s modern perpetual flowering carnations, then Jim suggests you head over to the display at High Park Nursery (GPD3). “There’s an interesting range of modern coloured carnations.”
