Tom Hoblyn
Garden designer
Tom has been designing award-winning gardens since 2005. His first show garden at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show won a Silver medal and he followed this with consecutive Gold medals in 2006 and 2007. He won Gold at his debut at Chelsea in 2008. This year, Tom is excited to be exhibiting his first full-sized show garden for Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust.
Royal Horticultural Society How long have you been going to Chelsea?
Tom Hoblyn It’s my 12th year in a row, before that intermittently.
RHS What do you enjoy most about Chelsea?
TH I think my wife would say I enjoy hanging around with my cronies banging on about plants!
RHS Your top tip for surviving Chelsea?
TH A foldaway director’s chair with drinks holder.
RHS What kind of garden do you have at home?
TH Charitably, you’d say an homage to all my previous show gardens; uncharitably; a dumping ground from all my previous show gardens!
RHS What’s your favourite plant or planting combination?
TH That’s an impossible question! I can tell you my favourite rock group: Led Zeppelin.
RHS What do you do once Chelsea week is over?
TH Contact my clients to remind them who I am.
