The inspiration for this garden comes from Martin Cook’s work with Ian Hamilton Finlay at his garden Little Sparta. The garden is designed as a poet’s retreat. Verses and poems are hand-carved into features such as the sundial, benches, water features and bridge to provoke reflection; the features have been created by Martin Cook Studio.

The planting style is informal and overgrown to create the impression of a private hideaway where the poet can isolate himself. The planting scheme features shades of blue and white and has been designed by Bonnie Davies.
