The Art of Yorkshire is a garden that celebrates Yorkshire’s art and landscape through the eyes of an artist, taking inspiration from the great Yorkshire artists Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney, Andy Goldsworthy and Joseph Turner.
The garden sets the scene of Yorkshire as Turner set the scene for his landscapes – not necessarily a true depiction, but a reflection of Yorkshire as he saw it. Paving and planting represent traditional field patterns in the foreground, rolling moors in the mid-ground and to the rear, the undulating rocky hills of Yorkshire.
At its heart, the garden also features a major piece of sculpture – Barbara Hepworth’s Ascending Form (1958).
