The Times Eureka Garden in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew showcases the significance of plants in science and society. The species chosen demonstrate both beauty and utility. Many have medicinal, commercial and industrial uses, emphasising the invaluable role that plants play in our everyday lives. They provide food, clothing and the air that we breathe.

The design draws inspiration from plant cells. Capillaries radiate along the ground and rise up the boundary hedging; the pavilion echoes the cellular structure of plants and is made from sustainably-sourced timber and bio-plastics. Each element aims to reflect the importance of plants in our lives.

The pavilion has been designed by NEX Architecture, and engineering services provided by Buro Happold.

Expert commentary by Chris Young - Editor of The Garden

The garden's theme of the 'plant cell' is used consistently in this garden; designer Marcus Barnett has even managed to make the timber pavilion marry into the theme, with the variety of shapes of cell structures and the 'windows' showing differing views of the garden.
