Think of a tropical paradise in the Caribbean, and Grenada comes to mind. Endless pristine white-sand beaches and turquoise seas surround this tiny island. The ‘Spice of the Caribbean’, Grenada is a great destination for a relaxing holiday.
It is a tranquil, uncrowded island; many travellers have yet to discover its unhurried pace of life and the warmth of its people. The port of St George's is the island’s capital, where colourful and colonial-era buildings line the waterfront.
Nearby, two-mile long Grand Anse beach is the perfect place to unwind. For those who want to be more active, scuba diving is popular activity, with sunken wrecks to explore. Further inland, hiking trails lead through rainforest where visitors can see the island’s wildlife and native plants. Trails at Grand Etang National Park high in the mountains draw in views of the crater lake at the park’s centre.
Grenada’s fertile landscape and climate allow spice trees and tropical plants thrive. Those who are fascinated by plants – and inspired by Grenada’s Tropical Paradise exhibit at RHS Chelsea Flower Show – will be rewarded with lush natural displays of exotic plants and the option to visit many beautiful gardens and spice plantations.
