East Malling Research

Specialises in:

100 years of fruit culture science at East Malling

This display, entitled "The fruit of the tree", features a large, excavated apple tree (grown on an M9 rootstock) with all roots exposed as a stunning and novel centrepiece. Further displays of apple trees growing in rhizotrons (exposing roots), aquaculture and aeroponics (in bud and blossom) highlight past, present and future fruit research. Scientific knowledge focuses on rootstocks and growing techniques, through to the modern application of genetic studies to advance fruit culture.
