Millais Nurseries
Specialises in: Rhododendrons
100 years ago there was a huge surge of interest in rhododendrons, a bit like the historic tulip mania, as new species were collected from the Himalaya by explorers such as Reginald Farrer, George Forrest and Frank Kingdon-Ward. Soon, large estates who sponsored these epic plant-hunting trips were vying with one another to breed and show their best new garden hybrids. The Millais Nurseries exhibit reflects this 100 year journey, from collecting species in the Himalaya to early hybrids created for large gardens and new and exciting cultivars more suitable for today's smaller gardens.
