Show features at Cardiff 2011

Lynne AllbuttIf you feel passionately about the diminishing number of honey bees in the UK make your way to a show feature called Befriending Bees: designer Lynne Allbutt has developed this theme for her Cardiff show feature with a garden that's buzzing with life.

Lynne, a TV and radio presenter with a particular interest in wildlife gardening has decided to feature beekeeping with a difference – barefoot!

Lynne will be demonstrating the workings of a bee hive to encourage people to befriend bees either by beekeeping or bee feeding and bee-friendly plants will be planted in recycled containers.

It will also be an opportunity to learn about bee friendly planting and how you can utilise your garden to help these fascinating and vital insects.

 Raising the standard

Gardeners who enjoy growing home produce should be inspired by Mel Saunders' Spring Allotment using raised beds.

This feature hosts Interactive allotment sessions where you can discover culinary herbs and seasonal vegetables through practical demonstrations. Sessions are being held at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm every day, Join Radio 2’s Terry Walton on Friday 8 April and Chris Smith from Pennard Plants Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 April.

You'll see raised beds filled with colourful spring time flowers, fruit and vegetables. The specially designed beds are constructed from Link-a-bord, an environmentally friendly product made from recycled double glazed doors & windows which is quick and easy to assemble.

The design considers appropriate raised bed heights for wheel chair users, making allotment growing accessible to all.

Here comes the bridal display

If flowers are you thing don't miss Neath Port Talbot College's floristry display.

Designed by students, this features bridal-inspired arrangements created and designed by the students at Neath Port Talbot College. A patriotic Welsh flag made entirely from flowers, takes pride of place.

School children will be invited to take part in making their very own arrangement to take home. Lucky visitors will be presented with handmade floral button holes.
