Chris Beardshaw gets inspiration from local landmarks

Chris Beardshaw gathers ideas and inspiration in Cardiff from charity Groundwork, in preparation for his garden at RHS Show Cardiff 2012.

Chris Beardshaw, TV presenter and landscape designer, will be building a garden, Urban Oasis,  with charity Groundwork at Castle Bute, in readiness for the RHS Show Cardiff, opening Friday 20 April.

For inspiration he has spent time with the charity at their Fedw Hir centre, atop a hill above Merthyr Tydfil. The centre plays host to visits from school children as well as adults who come to learn new skills.

Nearby to the centre the charity took him to Parc Taf Bargoed, a once polluted landscape transformed into a beautiful park designed for activities and recreation.

Chris lauds the work the charity does: 'Some of the volunteers showed me their productive garden; they grow food and sell it at local markets – meaning they improve their own employment prospects by learning gardening and land skills as well as marketing their produce.'
