The early-season show gives exhibitors the opportunity to show off the beauty of spring-flowers set against majestic trees and shrubs and contrasting hard landscape; 2012 was no exception.
Harry Rich, designer of the Naturalistic garden won Best in Show at RHS Show Cardiff 2012 with his effective use of dry stone walls offsetting formal box balls and informal herbaceous and woody plants like Spiraea ‘Arguta’ and Polemonium yezoense var. hidakanum 'Bressingham Purple'.
Indoors, the best exhibit in the marquee went to Plantagogo.com of Cheshire, specialist growers of Heuchera and Tiarella with spring flowers to show off the virtues of these plants to great effect.
Competitive spirit was high this year as local schools vied to win the School Wheelbarrow Competition. All entries were creative and colourful but Ty Gwyn Special School proved triumphant in the end, coming first place.
