Sustainable gardens sponsored by Holiday Inn

This garden has been inspired by a line of poetry by T S Elliot. An oak tree stands in pasture, with a series of carved oak sculptures by artist Ruth Wheeler beneath it. There is a symbolic stream of wild flowers and an area of mulch where oak seedlings are growing. A fallen branch carved with the T S Elliot quote has been placed in the mulch area. These elements reflect the fact that endings are often new beginnings for us, and that things go full circle.

This sustainable garden is planted with native British plants and has been designed to attract a diverse range of wildlife and insects.

Anita Smith would like to thank Hilliers, Merrist Wood College, Oliver Lintott and Ruth Wheeler.

Expert commentary by Chris Young, The Garden

This is a really nice idea, capturing the lifecycle of an oak tree - in terms of the oak leaf mulch, the acorn sculptures, the tree in the middle and the oak saplings dotted about.
