The historial setting of Hampton Court Palace is the perfect backdrop for the Shakespearean theme at this year's show.
Shakespearean gardens
There are six Shakespeare show gardens inspired by some of the Bard's best-loved comedies.
Shakespeare's Allotment
In keeping with the Grow Your Own theme, there's an example of a fruit and veg garden that might have existed in Tudor times. Shakespeare's Allotment has been designed by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust's head gardener Barry Locke.
A Midsummer's Rose Festival
Roses were a popular and symbolic flower in Shakespeare's era and the Midsummer's Rose Festival celebrates this with a gorgeous new Rose of the Year, plus eight more specially-selected varieties that will be making their debut at the show. Keeping the theme of A Midsummer's Night Dream, is has an enchanted woodland setting and costumes and props from the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Scarecrow competition
Following the success of the scarecrow competition at Hampton Court the past two years, the scarecrows are back, with a Shakespearean theme.
Primary schools from the South East of England involved in the RHS Campaign for School Gardening were challenged to create a scarecrow inspired by a character from one of the Bard's plays. The best 40 are on display at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
