Rose of the Year 2013 is You’re Beautiful ('Fryracy'), shown by Roses UK (RR26). The lightly-scented, easy-care floribunda rose is a striking shade of bright pink, and should be planted with bonemeal and well-watered in its first year. It has also been awarded an RNRS Gold Medal, a Gold Standard 2012, and is breeder Gareth Fryer's fifth Rose of the Year.

Take in the heady perfume of the English Rose Collection on the David Austin Roses (RR25) display, voted Best in Show. Rose Gertrude Jekyll ('Ausbord'), pictured bottom, has a beautiful, strong Old Rose scent. Height and spread: 1.3m x 1m (4.5ft. x 3.5ft). Growth is tall and vigorous making it suitable for the back of a border.

Sweet Dream ('Fryminicot'), from Apuldram Roses (RR2), is a peachy-apricot, double-bloom. This attractive patio mini-rose is an extremely bushy plant, producing masses of medium-sized flowers. A former Rose of the Year 1988, it grows between 37-45cm (15-18 ins).

New for 2012, Chandos Beauty ('Harmistry') is a shell-pink Hybrid Tea rose. Winner of the 2007 Fragrance Prize at the City of Glasgow International Rose Trials, its foliage is large, glossy and dark-green. This plant, seen on Harkness Roses (RR3), is robust and wide so planting distance is recommended at 80cm (2.5 ft) making it suitable for beds and hedges.

'Mermaid' is a wonderful climber with large, single flowers, ideal for north-facing walls and fences. Peter Beals Roses (RR23), says its wicked, hooked thorns are perfect for creating a security fence. Flowering period is from June to September and will grow more than 20ft (6m) in height and spread. Can be a little tender, so plant it in a sheltered position.

Nostalgia ('Savarita') is a Hybrid Tea rose from Apuldram Roses (RR2) with large white blooms that have contrasting cherry-red edging. Flowers are set off perfectly by the backdrop of large, dark-green, glossy foliage which is red when young. Very fragrant and blooms are said to be unaffected by rain. Also good for cutting. Height: 60-90cm (2-3ft).

Togmeister ('Beahappy'), from Peter Beals Roses (RR23), is a bright yellow Floribunda rose named after Terry Wogan's legions of fans. It's wonderfully fragrant, and flowers continuously all summer long. Its foliage is healthy, glossy and plentiful. Easy to manage, and will tolerate a small amount of shade. Looks great in containers or the border.
