The Wheels of Time
This is a garden designed for young people as a place to reflect on their past and look forward to the future. The design includes lines from the Kipling poem The Glory of the Garden, which is relevant to the work carried out by Southend Youth Offending Service in creating the garden.
Quadrant-shaped flower beds reflect parts of clock wheels when the back of a clock is opened. Two raised beds to the rear of the garden feature seating incorporated within the retaining wall. A floral clock is built into the rear wall, where moss art is used to depict verses from Kipling’s poem and Roman numerals, highlighted by solar-powered spotlights.
The garden is designed to be reused after the show within a community garden in the borough of Southend.
