Burncoose Nurseries
Specialises in: Trees, shrubs & perennials
Inspiration for the Burncoose display has been drawn from the gardens built through wealth derived from mining and from the ruins of mining land: rusting water wheels, rusting debris, tramways, copper-stained stone, minerals and mine shafts.
Many Cornish gardens that can be visited today were established by wealthy mine owners, including those of the Williams family: Burncoose, Caerhays Castle and Scorrier House. At Burncoose Gardens, miners were put to work building paths and even a large tunnel to move cows from field to field, during periods when mining work was scarce.
