The garden is a representation of the environment and plants that existed when dinosaurs roamed the earth during the Mesozoic era. A young raptor can be seen taking a drink from a swampy pool that is surrounded by primaeval forest. The plants in the garden are those that grew during the age of the dinosaurs and include conifers, cycads and ferns. Some primitive flowering plants, which had just started to flourish before the demise of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, are also to be seen.
Chester Zoo is staging a temporary dinosaur display in the zoo using full size animatronic models during the summer of 2011.
