Human Immunodeficiency Virus as an inspiration for a garden design? It may be surprising, but 25 years of sex education have been lost and the virus is now spreading quickly amongst the adult population, including the mature generations.

Do Not Step Over the Fence depicts the virus as an irregular sphere with 72 spikes that link into the DNA of white blood cells, shown by standard balls of Laurus nobilis. Lavender represents the fatty coating or viral envelope of the virus; the matrix and various proteins and enzymes are depicted by pink powder-coated steel balls. The virus is surrounded by a pink latex rubber barrier that indicates the essential Safe Sex message. Please also visit www.avert.org.
