Global warming is becoming ever more apparent, causing a multitude of problems for gardeners. Rider on the Storm primarily addresses flooding and extreme rainfall.

The design features a rain garden planted with flood-tolerant species that act as the front line defence, whilst a living roof and walls aid rainwater absorption. Turf drainage gullies criss-cross the walkway, channelling rainwater into swales (customised planters designed to hold and store excess run-off).

This garden is a place to unwind, with abundant lush foliage set against rusting steel. Seating is found within the summerhouse and reclaimed girders are used throughout to represent the decay of industry and the changing public attitude towards to our environment.
