Katharine was inspired to create this garden after researching colour and the effects it can have on our emotions, including how colour can be manipulated to stimulate particular reactions. A personal interest in the rehabilitation of prisoners, together with an awareness of the social and environmental benefits of garden design, prompted this colour-led garden that explores the rehabilitation of prisoners through wellbeing.

The garden has been designed to address self-worth, stress management, social interaction, skill development, appreciation and acceptance. A strong structure of repeated circular forms creates a sense of unity. The outer area is designed to encourage movement around and through the space, and the inner sanctum is meant for rest and contemplation. Access through the garden has been manipulated so that some angles invite exploration whilst others offer fulfilling views.
