Visitors arrived in their hundreds to enjoy the February London Flower Show. Within half an hour of the doors opening the show seemed almost full to capacity. This popular early show seemed to portray the beginning of spring, with 26 exhibitors showing a range of early spring flowers and plants. To accompany the plants there was a competition of botanical art which, according to committee chairman Gordon Rae, contained some of the best painting seen for a while.
Spring-flowering bulbs supplied much of the colour for the show, accompanied by a variety of early perennials, cacti, trees and shrubs, bamboos, cut flowers and plants from the southern hemisphere. The judges awarded six Gold Medals, which confirmed the quality of this successful show.

This display of trees, shrubs and ornamental plants was staged by Burncoose Nurseries from Cornwall and was rewarded with a Gold Medal

P W Plants from Norfolk deserved a Gold Medal for this display of hardy bamboos and associated woody plants

Early spring bulbs and alpines from Pottertons Nursery, based in Lincolnshire, were easy winners of a Gold Medal

For the second month in a row Southcombe Gardens from Devon was awarded a Gold Medal for a display of cut willows and artefacts

Galanthus 'S Arnott' - just one of the early flowering spring bulbs on the Gold Medal winning stand from Avon Bulbs

Saxifraga 'Nottingham Gold' was just one of the little gems on the exhibit from Pottertons Nursery which the judges awarded a Gold Medal
