Garden for WildlifeThe Garden for Wildlife

The Garden for Wildlife was created in 2006 and has been created within the boundaries of an existing tree belt to provide wildlife with a natural corridor with which to reach the garden. The concept of the garden is to encompass versions of different habitats that can be found on the estate at Hyde Hall to show the visitor how it can be recreated in a domestic size garden.

The woodland glade section has been planted with plants such as Digitalis purpurea and Primula vulgaris and this leads on to a small lawn area where part of the grass is left long as shelter for a variety of creatures. The bog and pond area is stocked with plants such as Ligularia przewalskii and the eccentric Primula vialii. The meadow area provides vital food and nectar plants such as the seeds of Briza media and the beautifully scented Monarda ‘Cambridge Scarlet’.

The garden also contains other features beneficial to wildlife, such as the log wall - which provides shelter for a whole host of creatures- and a range of bird feeders and several man-made wildlife havens such as hedgehog boxes and ladybird hotels.
