The Glasshouse wins an award
The Glasshouse at RHS Wisley has won a Heritage and Environment Award from Guildford Borough Council. It was awarded the New Building Design award.
Introduced in 1987 by the council, these awards encourage and reward architectural and environmental projects that contribute to the quality and sustainability of the local environment.
The New Building Design award was open for private or commercial projects, large or small, from new homes and extensions to commercial developments. The awards were judged by an independent panel of judges and below are the panels' comments relating to the Glasshouse.
* Building is sited in a way that shows off the scale and lightweight construction that stuns the approaching visitor.
* Its landscaping is faultless.
* Wonderfully busy and energetic place for learning and looking filled with children and families.
* The building manages to evoke the grand tradition of fine English Great Conservatories, well detailed and fit for purpose.
