The Royal Horticultural Society presented a seminar entitled 'Flowers from the Cape' on Wednesday, 5 March, 2003 at the RHS Conference Centre, Greycoat Street, London.

The seminar was designed to present an overview of plants that originate from the western part of South Africa, an area with a Mediterranean-type climate, together with information on individual plant groups both in the wild and in cultivation. The main objective was to consider those plants which are suitable for cultivation in the United Kingdom and techniques for growing them.

Talks were presented by the following:

Professor John Parker (Director of Cambridge University Botanic Garden): An evolutionary extravaganza: the Cape Floral Kingdom

Derek Tribble (author and lecturer): Succulent plants

Diana Miller (Keeper of the Herbarium at RHS Garden Wisley): Pelargoniums

Nick Wray (Superintendent of University of Bristol Botanic Garden): Restios

Terry Smale (author, lecturer and nurseryman): Bulbous plants

Mike Nelhams (Curator of Tresco Abbey Gardens): Protea family
