Camellia
yellow mottle virus affects only camellias and the leaves
develop a bold mottled pattern of dark green and pale yellow.
The disease appears to develop slowly within the bush, with
initially only one or two branches showing infection. Viruses
require vectors to spread them between plants and these are
most frequently sap-sucking insects such as aphids, but the
vector of this virus in camellias is unknown. There is no
treatment other than prompt pruning out of infected branches.
It appears to have little effect on vigour or flowering and
is often tolerated, since it poses no threat to plants other
than camellias.
