RHS Online: Gardening for All

Advice

The Society's advisory staff includes botanists, entomologists, plant pathologists, plant physiologists and soil scientists who work closely with a team of horticultural advisers. Together they respond to the scientific and advisory needs of RHS members. Free one-to-one gardening advice is one of the benefits of RHS membership.

Help & advice

Every month the RHS advisory staff produce topical help and advice subjects for the website. This provides information on a wide range of topics to help you with your garden, plants and gardening.

Gardeners' calendar

Our calendar provides a checklist of things to do in UK gardens each month. Depending on the British weather the timing of some jobs may vary, but a weather guideline is also provided.

Manure contaminated with weedkiller

The advisory department has received an increasing number of calls from members concerned about abnormal growth of vegetable crops, in particular, tomatoes, potatoes and legumes. This is believed to be caused by application of farmyard manure contaminated with weedkiller.

Leaf loss or death of Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Frisia’

The advisory department has been fielding an unusually high number of calls from members about ailing Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Frisia’ trees. It is unknown what is causing the problems, but RHS Members can help identify the cause by sending samples into Plant Pathology. See the below link for more information.
