Grey mould on indoor cyclamen

Symptoms

Botrytis symptoms on flowers - photograph copyright T. SandallA grey fluffy mould develops on petals, leaves and leaf stalks, especially round the base of the leaf stalks. The other common symptom is spots on petals that develop from small water-soaked lesions into necrotic spots.

Cause

Grey mould or botrytis, caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea, can be a troublesome disease of florists' cyclamen. It is more severe in humid conditions and wounded tissues are more susceptible to attack.

Non-chemical control

Keep pots of cyclamen in airy, well-ventilated places and remove any affected parts as soon as seen.

Chemical control

No chemical control measures are available to amateur gardeners.
