The RHS Soil Analysis Service
This service, which has been developed specifically with gardeners in mind, provides an analysis of soil texture, pH, organic matter and the major plant nutrients. You receive a detailed interpretation of the results as well as fertilizer recommendations for either fruit, vegetables, ornamentals or lawns.
A pack containing sample bags, a pre-addressed envelope and sampling instructions for those wishing to use the service is available on request. It is important to follow the instructions carefully and send the samples and correct fee back in the envelope provided. The completed report, which is presented in a neat folder, is then usually returned within 14 days. The service costs £20 per sample for members and £25 per sample for non-members. Please note that the service only involves analysis of nutrients in garden soils. Nutrient analyses of composts, manures or container media are not available, nor is the analysis of potential soil contamination.
