Oakham is a thriving market town in the heart of the rural East Midlands. The historic core of the town is centred on the medieval castle, the parish church of All Saints and the market place and Butter Cross. The town has been surrounded in recent years by major new housing developments.
Oakham in Bloom is led by an enthusiastic committee of unpaid volunteers. Working together with the town and county authorities, local businesses, schools, local businesses, schools, volunteer gardens, fundraisers and the local prison it co-ordinates Oakham’s entry into the East Midland and Britain in Bloom competitions. In the last 10 years Oakham has seen, not only vastly improved floral displays in the town, but many more trees, shrubs, bulbs and permanent plantings to enhance the entire townscape.
