2007 RHS Britain in Bloom Winner: Urban Community

Uddingston 2007

Uddingston is a former mining village, now a popular commuter town with road and rail links to Glasgow, Edinburgh and the South. The expanding volunteer group, Uddingston Pride, has worked hard to clean up litter and develop floral displays, supported by the whole community - including schools, traders, local organisations and the councils of South and North Lanarkshire.

The pink sandstone Victorian villas and tenement flats of the village are enhanced by colourful blooms in summer and evergreens in winter, so that the once run-down village centre is now an attractive focus of the community, while a Gateway feature at the entrance to Uddingston reflects the renewed pride and sense of community, which will underpin future successful projects.

Uddingston received a Silver-Gilt Award
