Entries
- Only one flower bed entry can be submitted by an organisation. Entries from individuals will not be eligible
- The photographs can be taken by amateur or professional photographers
- Entry to the competition is free of charge
- Photographs must not be taken by RHS staff
- Please ensure you keep copies of submitted images
- By entering into the competition applicants agree to abide by the conditions of entry of the competition
Flower Bed
- The flower bed must be located in a visually accessible space in the UK
- The flower bed must be of a seasonal display whereby seasonal is deemed to mean a temporary summer planting
- The flower bed should be designed to reach peak condition for July/August for maximum impact
- Two thirds of the display should be bedding plants
- Permanent planting should be less than one third of display area
- Hard landscaping, if used, must not account for more than one third of the display area
- The flower bed should have been in position for at least two months before the photograph is taken
- The flower bed should remain in position until 30 September 2008
- Size - The flower bed will be no smaller than 10 square metres for community groups, schools and colleges and no smaller than 20 square metres for local authorities
- Those submitting entries should have had some involvement in the planning, planting or maintenance of the flower bed
Photographs
- Photographs must be taken between 1 July and 31 August 2008
- Take three colour pictures – one encompassing the whole bed and a further two from different angles
- The photograph should compose of the flower bed only, for example no people or other distractions
- Submit photographs in digital format
- All submissions must be in .jpg format and each photograph no larger than 2MB in file size. Submissions that do not comply may be rejected, or may not be displayed as you intended
- Scanned transparencies in digital format will also be accepted
- If short listed, applicants will be required to submit higher resolution images for publicity purposes
- All photographs entered into the competition must be suitable for publication on the RHS websites and potentially in exhibitions and therefore should be suitable for a general audience
- Copyright of the images will remain with the photographer, but the RHS retains the right to use any entries for all media
- All photographs must contain accompanying metadata of the photographers full name, the date the photograph was taken, the location the photograph was taken. Please fill in all information on the entry form
- Please ensure the file name for each photograph emailed includes your organisations name
Supporting Text
Photographs should be accompanied by a written description of 50-100 words maximum describing who the applicants are, what the ideas or inspiration behind the flower bed was, and what it means to the local community. Please complete the appropriate section on the entry form.
