Inspired by the WB Yeats poem, the garden is a richly textured tapestry of colour and surface. The garden evokes remembered landscapes, damp and dry, light and shade, while the turf seat echoes those days spent lying on the grass and looking up to the sky in contemplation, reviving the spirit in an urban setting.
Planting is designed to complement and contrast with the geometry of the garden, introducing a dialogue between hard and flowing forms. The contrast of conifers and lush damp planting, coupled with natural materials used in a contemporary design, marry together our desire for wide experiences with the need to create a personal space where we can re-charge and relax.
Later this year the garden will be rebuilt in Nova Scotia as part of Chester’s outdoor classrooms project, this will be organised by Team Nova Scotia.
