A contemporary space using dramatic planting and bright flowers, which surround a central unfurling spiral of carved granite stepping stones, reflecting the idea of discovery. As the focal point of the garden, these gentle stones evoke a theme of progress and reflect the ongoing steps that Cancer Research UK has taken in funding groundbreaking research.

The curved stepping stones lead to a raised seating area where a curvaceous granite table and pastille-shaped seats float over a moving sea of plants. It is here that you can best view an oil and light installation, which has been designed by Iestyn Davies.

A dramatic 3.5m (11.5ft) high hornbeam hedge adds the finishing touches to the garden’s boundary. All the plants in the garden have been chosen for their suitability to the south-facing plot.

The Cancer Research UK show gardenThe loose romantic style of planting has become a signature of the garden designers, Jane Hudson and Erik De Maeijer, who were finalists in the BBC/RHS People’s Choice vote at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2002.

Harkness Roses is launching the Caron Keating rose for Cancer Research UK at the show.
