On a gentle slope of mature orchard and wildflower meadow, the garden demonstrates various styles of habitat to promote biodiversity. Decaying logs, reed beds and nest boxes are just some of the features, which provide shelter and homes for butterflies, moths, insects, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

A path of gravel with steps edged in stone winds its way past a burbling stream, a pool of clear water naturalised with reeds and iris, a curved garden seat and swathes of floriferous pink and blue planting.

Passing the pool the path leads on to a traditional garden building, complete with a tumbling green roof of Sedum.  The building provides a haven of rest for the visitor and displays many energy saving features and a place to learn about plants and creatures in the garden.

Behind the garden building there is a small meadow of flowering grasses and wild flowers, where old apple trees support climbing roses and bird nesting boxes.

Giles Landscapes Wildlife Trusts Lush Garden show gardenAfter the Chelsea Flower Show, the garden building will be transported around the country and act as a mobile education centre, which will allow The Wildlife Trust staff to interact with the public and inspire people to learn about and attract wildlife into their gardens.

Stephen Hall won an RHS Silver Medal and the BBC Viewer’s Choice Award with his Wildlife Trusts Gateway Garden at Chelsea Flower Show last year.
