The Taiga Rescue Network, a worldwide not-for-profit organisation, was established in 1992 to give a voice to those wanting to see sensitive development in the boreal region. The garden highlights the destruction of the northern boreal forests of Alaska, Canada, Siberia and Scotland.
The design concept is a forest clearing managed as a garden to harvest non-timber forest products, such as pine nuts, sap, blueberries, bark and grasses. These products can be harvested sustainably on a commercial scale, making a viable return from forests without resort to destructive clear-fell logging practices. Three habitat zones are represented: dry alpine, meadow and waterside around a plunge pool.
