We have seen their rag and bone yard, but what would the Steptoe front garden have looked like?
Steptoe’s Front Garden is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of how junk and horticulture can combine to superb effect. Surplus stock has been transformed into useful and decorative garden features. There is a bedstead fence festooned with rambling roses, clematis and ivy. The skeleton makes a good climbing frame for nasturtiums. Used tyres make raised borders and an old bath creates a great water feature.
There is no shortage of manure, creating an enormous compost heap brimming with a fine selection of root vegetables. In fact, roses and vegetables can be found wherever there is space in a chimney pot. A spare cart is marooned with its load but is overflowing with garden plants and vegetables. Upended gin bottles make a great edging to the reclaimed brick path.
