This garden is for professional city dwellers. It is an outdoor extension to the modern urban home and it aims to stimulate reflection. Yulia Badian, garden designer, says that this garden extends an invitation to come home to ourselves. Yulia believes that recharging our body, mind and spirit in a peaceful safe place is essential in maintaining our physical and emotional wellness.

Cradle and a VoidThe minimalist design is inspired by the traditional Japanese principals of five elements translated into the 21st century. Playful, sensuous curves and bold colours are contrasted by the formality of layout and materials. The understated planting aims to lift our spirits with nature’s simple beauty. Slender deciduous trees, delicate grasses, perennials and ferns contrast with the stern topiarised shrubs. All the plants have been chosen for their shape, colour, scent and allegorical qualities.

Cradle and a VoidThe cradle is a perspex water feature set into a void derived from the same shape. It slowly fills and empties to reflect how Chi, our essential life force, ebbs and flows.
