Less is Moor

Designer: Simon Thomas
Contractor: Marmeladejam

This garden is a contemporary interpretation of a classical Moorish garden. Gardens within the grounds of the Alhambra Palace in Spain were the inspiration behind this garden, especially elements such as strong geometric lines, running water, white walls and colourful Mediterranean planting.

Within the Less is Moor garden a vertical and horizontal rill of black running water contrasts with white laminated concrete paving and red cedar ‘floating’ benches. The perimeter is a white painted wall topped by wooden louvered fencing.

The London Garden Design Company gardenIn keeping with the Moorish theme the planting plan has a Persian carpet 'tapestry' effect to it. Blues, lilacs and purples (Allium, Iris, Salvia, Knautia) are jewel colours, all muted by a lush green Euphorbia, silver Artemesia and contrasting strongly with Buxus cubes.
